Visibly and actively violating the TOS for Final Fantasy 14, in ways that could potentially get the rest of the Midnight Rose in trouble. Don't use bots or buy gil. Don't talk about mods in /say chat or post world first videos with a parse counter. We don't want our own billboard incident.

The Midnight Rose officership frowns upon meme behavior in Final Fantasy XIV that violates rule #1. You would think this goes without saying but here we are. Some top examples of this behavior includes: making fun of fellow players based on their home server or tribalism towards Data Centers, ("Balmung is for degens," "Dynamis is empty," etc.), exclusionary behavior or anything perpetuating harmful stereotypes (refusing to RP with players who don't/cant mod, insulting others with stereotypes like "dirty parsers" or assuming all modders ERP, etc.), loudly insulting a member's playstyle or calling out every mistake, and pissing on job choices. Acting in this fashion will merit a warning, and repeated behavior may get you banned.

Consent is sexy. No, seriously: consent in all things is sexy, in RP and in real life. When in doubt, check in! And, if you have been told to stop a certain behavior or cease talking about a certain topic, comply immediately, and comply without a fuss.

Your FC mates are not your parents, nor your therapists. We want to be a supportive, inclusive, and safe community where people can share their thoughts and feel heard. However, our chats and the DMs of our members - including your Officers - are not invitations for free therapy. If you’re going through some tough stuff IRL and looking for advice or a listening ear, please be cognizant of how much you unload in our channels. Venting a little bit is fine; dominating the entire conversation for an hour or more is not. And, once again: please show some consideration to your Officers by not presuming that they are available to you 24/7.

If someone does not have the “DMs open” role on our server, please check in with them before you message them! This is part and parcel of respecting your fellow players and FC mates, and also acknowledging that the people you play with should not be hyper-available for everyone and everything.

Keep things on topic in the discord. The discord space has a number of channels dedicated to specific content and discussions. Use those to your benefit, and keep things organized as best as possible. Encourage other members to do this too, for everyone’s benefit!

Exercise care and compassion in our voice channels. We love it when our community members hang out. We don’t love it when only one person is talking over everyone and taking up way too much space, or their mic picks up all the noise around them and makes it hard to hear others. Afford voice calls with the same respect that you’d afford having a meal with people you care about. Let conversations flow; don’t get up on a podium and talk at everyone rather than to everyone, and be mindful of your mic's sensitivity settings. If you are asked to turn down your mic sensitivity or switch to push-to-talk, please do so.

Respect for fellow members. We are a mature free company, and mature people treat those around them like adults. We have a zero tolerance policy on slurs, excessive insults, derogatory terms, hate speech, hate trolling, and bad-faith argumentation. Furthermore, discrimination of any kind, including but not limited to race, abledness, ethnicity, religion, gender, and so on, can and does lead to their membership to the Midnight Rose being revoked.

Respect for the FFXIV community. This should apply whether we are talking about PvP, PvE, questing, the latest patch content, or shenanigans in Limsa. When you have the Midnight Rose tag beside your name, you represent the free company. When you don’t, we still want members of our FC to have the common sense to show basic respect to other players. Disrespect and trolling of the greater FFXIV and gaming communities can also lead to your removal from the FC, and a ban from the Discord server.

Respect for other people’s feelings and personhood. Humor is welcome, but never at someone else’s expense. What may seem harmless to you can affect others negatively.

Respect for the privacy of your fellow players. Doxxing or any attempts to identify details about any member's identity or personal life are strictly prohibited. This is non-negotiable; any details freely and publicly given by individuals with their consent is fine, but digging further on your own is strictly discouraged. Everyone deserves to have their online and real-life presence separate if they so choose.

Respect for YOURSELF. Remember that YOUR needs are as real and valid as the needs of others. Speak up for yourself when you need to, and remember that real life always comes first! If you are struggling with things outside of the game or RP, don't feel pressured to keep up posts and activity. We will be here to support you when you are able to be here, and we will understand when you are not.

Are you fully aware of the nature of the community member’s violation and why they were banned or placed on a timeout?

Is there genuine remorse on the part of the community member?

Is the community member holding themselves fully accountable for their actions?

In cases where another community member was victimized by the removed member, is the victim willing to have the community member reintroduced into the space?

The rules of the FC also dictate the rules in RP, especially the rule of respect. As such, the expectation is that we all know how to behave here.

IC stays IC. Do not bring IC drama OOC and do not take IC actions personally. If something feels targeted and you have evidence that guides you to this conclusion (with respect to Midnight Rose only), you can bring it to the Officers. We are here to ensure excellent RP happens with our FC and during our event times. We are not here to manage your interpersonal relationships. Drama should be handled in private, not on our server.

Before you can start RPing in the Midnight Rose discord and participating in our events, please fill out the RP consent checklist we have provided. Place it on your character profile. The Officers will be checking this.

As mature themes (gore, violence, trauma, etc.) may become relevant during FC events/ storyline at any given time, it is a requirement that you, the player, be 21 yrs of age or older, if you are going to role-play within Midnight Rose. This is non-negotiable. In the event that an officer of the Midnight Rose has discovered that a member is underaged and lied about this in order to RP with us, they will be removed from the FC.

In the event that a mature theme may be triggering, it is asked that people state what those possible triggers are when initiating a scene.

In the event that you, the player, have specific triggers that may be brought up during a scene you have the right to decline to participate and/or remove yourself from said scene once it has started without undue consequences to your character. You also have the right to politely ask others to change the scene so that it does not include said trigger. If they refuse, please inform an Officer immediately.

Once again, consent is sexy. If your character is about to do something risky or something that could have consequences for another character, check in. Hell: when in doubt about any move you might make or propose in a thread or in in-game RP interactions, check in! If the other party doesn’t agree, shift gears and move on without a fuss.

Do NOT use AI generated content for any pertinent artwork or for writing out RP posts. We support artists and respect their craft. Members found violating this rule will be banned and blacklisted, effective immediately.

We have a zero tolerance policy towards meta-gaming, god-modding, power-emoting, trolling, public ERP, inciting OOC drama, and excessive profanity in public chats. Zero tolerance means an immediate time-out.

Do not bring in characters from other media sources. Some examples: World of Warcraft, Elder Scrolls Online, Star Wars, Dragon Age, Dragonlance, Warhammer, the Forgotten Realms. There are RP servers for this sort of stuff, and the Midnight Rose is NOT one of them.

Respect our blacklists and bans. When a person is banned from our FC or from participating in our RP events, this isn’t a decision made lightly. It is deliberate, and ultimately a decision used to help make the community stronger. We can't control what others do outside of the Midnight Rose. We can decide on who we have in our community. Therefore, know that if you are caught assisting a banned individual evade said ban in any way, it is grounds for removal.

The Midnight Rose strongly encourages its RPers to be caught up with the MSQ of FF14. This isn’t a requirement, mind you. And we do NOT mean, “you absolutely have to play until Dawntrail before you can sit with us”. What we mean is, your roleplaying experiences with us would be far more enriching and fun if you have played up to the expansions that you have access to. For fully subscribed players, this currently means Dawntrail. For free trial players, this currently means Shadowbringers.

If you have questions about the lore, approach other players about it. Many of us, especially your Officers, would be happy to help. Of course, we’d encourage you to play through the game rather than just watch lore videos, or read FF14 Wikis.

Organic RP works best with clear communication & consent. Ask people all the questions! Seek clarification whenever you’re confused! And, more importantly: check in OOC, whether you are engaged in an open free-form thread, a thread whose general premise has been plotted out, or in in-game chat RP. Bad feelings and ill will can happen when players feel like they were strung along on a ride they didn’t ask for, or when expectations weren’t met - or directly violated. If you want to pull some shenanigans, let everyone involved know before you do the thing. More importantly: no means no. Don’t make it weird. Move on with grace.

RPing in FF14 is NOT like tabletop roleplaying game. And you are most certainly not the GM. In fact, only bad tabletop GMs cross lines with their players by doing things without consent: there is a subtle but significant difference between surprising your players and mishandling their trust. As a general rule of thumb, it is okay to create situations where you and your peers can discover things not just about the characters you play but about each other as fellow RPers. It is NOT okay to create situations that put all the power and agency in your hands, or in your character’s hands without the express and enthusiastic consent of other participants in the scene.

Familiarize yourself with the Discord server before you RP there. Our Chronicles of Etheirys forum has a guide and a template for your use. Please respect the “OPEN” or “CLOSED” labels on these posts. If a posted scenario has been labeled as CLOSED outside of certain characters, do not join in without express permission from the original poster. On the other hand, if the scenario is OPEN, check in through our #rp-discussion thread, or directly message the original poster to see if they are open to you joining in.

Please do not heavily breathe over folks not responding to you “fast enough.” If you are having a problem reaching someone, be patient and don’t assume that they are uninterested in roleplaying with you - or worse yet, that they dislike you. People have lives outside of the Midnight Rose and FFXIV, and sometimes it keeps them busy.

All actions must be attempts. Do NOT God Mode. Say, “John Finalfantasy takes his broadsword and swings wide at Lahabread!”. Do NOT say, “John Finalfantasy takes his broadsword and stabs Lahabread through!”

Do not grandstand. This is an RP thread, not your personal FF14 fanfic. We don’t do main characters here.

Make sure everyone looks cool, not just yourself. Jumping off on the previous point… trust us when we say doing fight stuff is so much better when both parties come off looking amazing.

Don’t be a dick. Do we even need to explain this one? Anyroad, if an Officer gets the vibe that you’ve been a bit of an asshole, you’re getting a warning - or, you’re out.

It has the potential to reveal major or minor plot points for the main storyline

The original poster decides the posting order. At their discretion, they can ping folks for reminders on when it’s their turn. (But don’t be weird about it!)

Other participants in the thread should try and give their peers a head’s up if they need to be skipped in the turn order. “Try”. Real life happens, as do brain funnies!

You can retcon or change whatever you need to change. This doesn’t just apply to things said or done in the “moments” where the thread takes place. This could also apply to other threads or interactions you’ve done or are doing around the same IRL time as this thread. As we like to say: time is a soup when it comes to organic RP and taking things into Discord.

Share the spotlight. You might be the sole Warrior of Light in MSQ, but that’s not how it works here, nor would it be very fun if that were the case either. Find ways to keep everyone in your thread involved! Let everybody have their moments.

Be cool. This is not a high-stakes performance; this is shooting the shit with friends. Ideally, nobody here is out to get you - but, if you feel like someone in the thread is acting poorly please let an Officer know ASAP.

You are in control of your character and their actions! Please understand IC actions do have IC consequences & you are responsible for your own fun.

Finding yourself without someone to talk to? If no one is approaching you for RP, but you see someone you might like to interact with, you are always free to send them a whisper. Did you miss a post? Worried that someone might have missed yours? As with any venue or roleplay space chat can, and will, scroll. If you think someone may have missed your post, or you missed someone else's, please send them a whisper!

Keep RP to a PG-13 rating - We do not allow public ERP under any circumstances and ask that you respect the limits of other patrons should they request that you tone down graphic descriptions of violence, vulgarity, et cetera. When in doubt we will err on the side of the one offended, not the one offending.

Weapons are assumed to be checked upon entry - This rule is enforced unilaterally and you will not be allowed to draw or use a weapon in character at any time. Forgetting to toggle weapon view or accidentally pressing "Z" is an understandable error; one you are expected to fix when noted. Should you draw steel in a scene you will be disarmed and, depending on severity, removed from the venue. This is not up for debate.

Respect Your Fellow Players - The world of Eorzea is not perfect, nor are its people. IC racism and bigotry is a norm. We do not tolerate OOC bigotry or harassment of any kind, however, including but not limited to: homophobia, transphobia, racism, misogyny, stalking, threats of OOC harm. Incidents will be dealt with swiftly and harshly. If you feel a patron has violated this rule please notify staff immediately.

Midnight Rose does not charge in-game Gil for drinks. We do, however, encourage tipping for our waitstaff and employees.

As the bookstore and café area are purely RP venues, no items with be exchanged. We are here for the joy of interacting with each other's characters, not to get free food or drink.
